Mercedes Johnson, 55, has joined as Director on the Board of Juniper Networks. Prior to this, Johnson served as SVP & CFO at Avago Technologies and Lam Research. She also previously held executive roles at Applied Materials, Nanometrics, NCR, and HP.
Chairman Responsibilities Given to CEO at Motorola Solutions
Motorola Solutions announced that it has elected CEO Greg Brown, 50, to the additional role of chairman. He replaces Dave Dorman, 55, who has been elected as lead independent director of the board. Brown joined Motorola in 2003 and has since served the company in various roles, including EVP, President, and COO. Prior to Motorola, he was Chairman & CEO of Micromuse, a network management software company. Before that, he was President of Ameritech Custom Business Services and Ameritech New Media. Brown was recently appointed by President Obama to the President’s Management Advisory Board.
CEO Succession Open and Two President Promotions at Communications Giant
Harris Corporation announced that it will be implementing a CEO succession plan after Chairman, President, & CEO Howard Lance, 55, announced that he would like to retire at the end of the next fiscal year. Lance will retain his present titles pending the appointment of a successor. Lance joined Harris in 2003 as President and CEO and was appointed Chairman of the board later that year.
Tom Eaton has replaced interim President Peter Shaper at Harris. Most recently, Eaton served as Harris’ Global Operations Officer and led the business' government division. Prior to Harris, he was President of G2 Satellite Solutions and EVP of Global Sales and Marketing. Before this, Eaton led Intelsat's global sales and customer support organization and also served as VP of Sales and Marketing for Integrated Network Services.
Jim Traficant is promoted to the position of President from his current roles as VP and GM of the business. He previously served as VP of Programs and Business Development for Harris IT Services and was the divisional VP of Business Development for Harris Government Communications Systems Division.
Polycom Recruits CMO, CTO, & Divisional VP; Promotes Others
Video Conferencing Equipment Company Polycom announced that Sean Lessman joins the company as Chief Technologist for the Worldwide Public Sector team. Lessman joins Polycom from Cisco where he served as VP of Technology for its Public Sector practice. Before joining Cisco, Lessman was the VP of Technology at TANDBERG where he worked in the office of the CTO for several years on advanced technologies, M&A activity, and industry partnerships.
Kate Hutchison, 48, joins as the company's new CMO and EVP. Hutchison possesses extensive marketing experience, including stints with VMware, Citrix Systems, and BEA. Hutchison will lead Polycom’s product marketing, corporate marketing, industry marketing, and global field marketing efforts.
Gary Testa has been named VP of the Global Cloud and Service Provider Solutions Group. A former VP of Worldwide Sales at IBM Tivoli Software, Testa will be responsible for driving global sales and business development for the full range of Polycom's service provider partners and managed service customers.
Russ Colbert was selected to be U.S. Federal Government Market Director. Most recently, Colbert served as Polycom's Global Education Market Director. Colbert also direct experience with the federal government while serving as a U.S. Navy Surface Warfare officer where he established, managed, and operated the Chief of Naval Educational and Training Center (CNET) global network. He has also served on the board of the prestigious Federal Government Distance Learning Association.
Hansjoerg Wagner is promoted to SVP of Global Field Operations. Under Wagner's leadership, the Asia Pacific region has grown to 24% of Polycom’s revenues and produces the highest profit margins of any region in which the company operates. This promotion expands Wagner's role to include global service sales, global sales processes, and Polycom's global cloud initiative. He will also remain the president of the Asia Pacific theatre.
Michael Chetner is promoted to VP of Asia Pacific. Chetner was previously Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand, generated consistent revenue growth and record revenues and increased market share of Polycom in that region.
Paul Newell is promoted to VP of Asia Pacific Field Operations. Building on Newell's success with APAC's Unified Communications strategy, he will now be responsible for driving the region's strategic initiatives and partner relations.

Quantum Sales Exec Selected as SVP at QLogic
Server and storage networking infrastructure solutions provider QLogic announced the appointment of Rob Crawford, 59, to the position of SVP of Worldwide Sales. Crawford has extensive sales leadership experience in the server and storage industries and previously worked as VP of Worldwide OEM, channel, and inside sales while at Quantum Corporation. Earlier in his career, Crawford held senior sales, at ADIC, Dell, and Compaq.
New Chief Development Exec at Converged Network Solutions Leader
Emulex announced that Margie Evashenk has been promoted to Chief Development Executive, a role previously held in interim by Emulex President & COO, Jeff Benck. Evashenk joined Emulex in 2006 and formerly served the company as SVP of Engineering. Prior to this, Evashenk was the co-founder and VP of Engineering at Sierra Logic before it was acquired by Emulex. She also has Engineering and R&D management experience at HP and Agilent Technologies.
New Product Strategist Announced at Echelon
Echelon has appointed Varun Nagaraj to the position of SVP of product management and product marketing. Nagaraj has held senior leadership positions at Extreme Networks, PRTM Consulting, Ellacoya, HP, NetContinuum, and Aprius. Most recently, he was the CEO of NetContinuum, an email and web security company. Varun was previously a Partner at PRTM, a leading management consulting company focused on product and operations strategy.
COO Promoted to CEO & Ex-CEO takes up new role as Vice Chair at CalAmp
Amplifier, antenna, and converter manufacturer CalAmp announced that its Board of Directors has promoted Michael Burdiek, 52, to President, CEO & Director. Most recently, Burdiek served the company as COO. He joined CalAmp as EVP in 2006 and was appointed as President of CalAmp’s Wireless Datacom segment in 2007. Prior to CalAmp, Budiek was President & CEO of Telenetics, a manufacturer of data communications products. Earlier in his career, Burdiek was SVP of the Wireless Test Systems unit at Comarco, a provider of test solutions to the wireless industry.
