Storage Veteran Joins Automated Retail Solutions Provider
Coinstar announced the appointment of Nelson Chan, 49, to its Board of Directors. Previously, Chan served as the CEO of Magellan from 2006 to 2008. Before that, he held various management positions at SanDisk, a manufacturer and supplier of flash brand data storage products, including EVP and GM of the Consumer Business division. Chan is also a member of the board of directors at Affymetrix, a genetic analysis company, and Synaptics, a developer of consumer interface solutions.

Arbitron announced that Ronald Garriques, 46, has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Garriques comes to Arbitron from Dell where he served as the President of its Global Consumer Business. Prior to Dell, Garriques was CEO and Chairman of Gee Holdings and President of Motorola’s Mobile Devices Business. Before joining Motorola, Garriques worked for ATT/Lucent Technologies, where he held leadership roles in product management, engineering, customer technical support, and deployment of Wireless Infrastructure for the global markets.

Chris Bruzzo, 41, has been appointed to the Board of Blue Nile, an online jewelry and watch retailer. Currently, Bruzzo serves as the SVP & Chief Marketing Officer for Seattle’s Best Coffee. Before that, he was the VP of Global Advertising & Digital Marketing at Starbucks. Before Starbucks, Bruzzo was the VP of Marketing & PR at Amazon.com and Assistant VP at Regence Blue Shield.
Canadian Techie on Energy Board
Thermal Energy International announced that it has appointed Donald Gibbs, 65, to its Board of Directors. Gibbs is the President, CEO, & Director of AirIQ, a provider of GPS solutions for location and security services. Prior to joining AirIQ, Gibbs was Chairman and CEO of Tarquin Group. He has a long history with Canadian technology companies, including stints at Leigh Instruments and Mitel. During his eight years at Mitel, the company was listed as a public company, was active on several stock exchanges, and grew in sales revenue to $250 million. He has also held senior positions at Cognos, Gandalf Systems, and Positron Fibre Systems.
IT Consultant Appointed as Exec Chairman at Venture Capital Firm
Equus Total Return announced that it has appointed Alessandro Benedetti, 49, as the Fund's Executive Chairman. Benedetti was instrumental in structuring the acquisition of a controlling interest in Italian telecom giant WIND Telecom. Additionally, he formed a consortium to close a 17 billion Euro leveraged buyout in 2005. Benedetti is a Non-Executive Director for Versatile Systems and Cadogan Petroleum.

Horne International, a provider of security to government agencies, announced that it has added Greg Layok to the Horne Advisory Board. Layok is currently a Director and Practice Lead for Technology and Integration at West Monroe Partners of Chicago. Prior to this, he served as MD of North America for ThoughtWorks. Layok also has IT experience with companies such as Andersen Consulting, UST Global, and Viant.
