IBM announced that it has elected David Farr, 56, to the company’s Board of Directors. Currently, Farr is the Chairman and CEO of Emerson Electric. He also sits on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America and the Municipal Theater Association of St. Louis. He has been with Emerson for more than 25 years and has held a variety of roles, including SVP, COO, Manager of Investor Relations, VP of Corporate Planning and Development, President of the Ridge Tool Division, and Group VP for the Industrial Components and Equipment Business. Earlier in his career, Farr served as a director for the United Way of Greater St. Louis and DPH Holdings Corporation.
IBM Promotes Female Insider to CEO and Board Positions
IBM announced that Virginia Rometty, 53, has been named as the company’s new President, CEO & Director, effective January 1, 2012. She is currently IBM’s SVP and Group Executive for Sales, Marketing & Strategy. Rometty will replace Samuel Palmisano, who will remain as Chairman of the IBM Board. Previously, Rometty served as SVP of IBM Global Business Services. She has also served as GM of IBM Global Services Americas and GM of IBM Global Insurance & Financial Services Sector. Rometty joined IBM in 1981 as a Systems Engineer.
Veteran Retires from HP; Interim SVP is Promoted
HP announced that Shane Robison, 56, is retiring as EVP and Chief Strategy & Technology Officer. Robison was also responsible for the company’s strategy and corporate development efforts, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, intellectual property licensing, venture capital community, and partnerships. Robison came to HP from Compaq, where he served as SVP of Technology and CTO. Prior to joining Compaq, he served as the President of Internet Technology and Development at AT&T Labs. He has also held senior positions at Cadence Design Systems and Apple Computer.
The company also announced that it has appointed Bethany Mayer as SVP and GM of the HP Networking business unit. Most recently, Mayer served as interim leader of the Networking business unit. Before being selected as the interim SVP, Mayer was VP of Marketing for Enterprise Servers, Storage & Networking at HP. Prior to joining HP, Mayer served as SVP of Worldwide Marketing and Corporate Development at Blue Coat Systems, Chief Marketing Officer at Mirapoint, Senior Product Line Manager at Cisco, and Senior Manager of New Products Development at Apple.
New CTO at Yahoo!
Raymie Stata, 43, has stepped down as Yahoo's CTO, but will remain at the company as an Entrepreneur in Residence. During his time at the company, Stata oversaw search and advertising technology work, as well as the development of Yahoo's cloud computing technology. Ash Munshi will replace Stata as the new CTO. Most recently, Munshi served as the Corporate Vice President at Applied Materials, where he was responsible for software and automation. Prior to Applied Materials, he was the VP & GM of the Enterprise Business Unit at Silicon Graphics and Director of Development and Marketing of the Tools Division at Oracle.
Former Apple & IBM Exec as CTO at AMD
AMD announced that Mark Papermaster, 50, has joined the company as SVP & CTO. Most recently, Papermaster was VP of Silicon Engineering at Cisco. Before joining Cisco, he served as Apple's SVP of Devices Hardware Engineering and was responsible for iPod and iPhone hardware development. Earlier in his career, Papermaster held several senior roles at IBM, including VP of Microprocessor Technology Development and VP of the Blade Development Unit.
New Division Heads at SAP
SAP announced that Greg Tomb has rejoined the company to head the new Global On-Demand Sales and Go-to-Market organization. Most recently, Tomb served as CEO and President of Vivido Mobile, an on-demand mobile applications company. Prior to Vivido, Tomb held a number of senior roles at SAP, including President and CEO of SAP North America.
The company also announced the appointment of Lori Mitchell-Keller as SVP and Head of the Global Retail Industry Business Unit. Prior to this appointment, Mitchell-Keller served as the SVP of Product Management at JDA Software. She also held a number of senior executive positions at Manugistics (now JDA Software), including SVP of Global Marketing and Solutions, SVP of Product Development and Strategy, and VP of Product and Solutions Marketing.
McAfee Selects Regional President for Japan
McAfee announced the appointment of Jean-Claude Broido as President of McAfee Japan. Most recently, Broido held a number of senior roles at EMC, including SVP of International Sales for the Information Intelligence Group, SVP of Worldwide Sales & Services for the Content Management Division, and VP of the EMEA Software Division. Prior to EMC, he was EVP and GM of the EMEA region for Documentum. Broido has also held a number of senior positions at Cadence Design Systems, Digital Equipment Corporation, and Intel.
