Pfizer has elected Dr. Helen Hobbs, 59, to its Board. She is an Investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She also serves on the Board of the McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development. Hobbs is the recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Heart Association.

Philip Morris International named Kalpana Morparia, 58, to its Board of Directors. Currently, Morparia serves as JP Morgan’s India CEO. She also sits on the board of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, an integrated global pharma company, and CMC, a leading Indian systems engineering and integration company. Before joining JP Morgan, Morparia was MD of ICICI Bank, India’s second largest bank. She also served as Vice Chair of ICICI’s Insurance and Asset Management Business. She was named one of "The 50 Most Powerful Women in International Business" by Fortune Magazine in 2008.

Allscripts, a healthcare management software provider, announced that Catherine Burzik, 59, has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Currently, she is the President & CEO of Kinetic Concepts, a leading medical technology company. Before joining Kinetic Concepts, she served as President of Applied Biosystems Group and as SVP of Applera. Burzik has also worked at Kodak, where she held various operations and marketing positions during her 20 year tenure. She currently serves as a board member at KCI, the San Antonio branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and AdvaMed.

IBM announced that Virginia Rometty, 53, has been named as the company’s new President, CEO & Director, effective January 1, 2012. She is currently IBM’s SVP and Group Executive for Sales, Marketing & Strategy. Rometty will replace Samuel Palmisano, who will remain as Chairman of the IBM Board. Previously, Rometty served as SVP of IBM Global Business Services. She has also served as GM of IBM Global Services Americas and GM of IBM Global Insurance & Financial Services Sector. Rometty joined IBM in 1981 as a Systems Engineer.

TD Bank Group announced the appointment of Karen Maidment, 52, to its Board of Directors. In the past, Maidment was the CFO & CAO at BMO Financial Group. Prior to that, she held several executive positions with Clarica Life Insurance Company, including CFO. Currently, Maidment serves on the boards of TransAlta, TD Ameritrade Holding, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, and The University of Waterloo. She was also named Canada's CFO of the Year for 2006 by Financial Executives International Canada.

Prior to joining Facebook, Mitic served as SVP of Global Product Marketing at Palm, where she oversaw hardware and software product management and marketing. Before Palm, she was the VP & GM at Yahoo! Currently, Mitic serves on the Board of Special Olympics International.
