AOL Appoints CTO with Strong Publishing/Education/Online Credentials

AOL appointed iCTO Curtis Brown, 40, as EVP & CTO. Brown is an accomplished technology leader with over 20 years experience building and managing global technology teams, products, data, systems, infrastructure, and consumer web sites. He has served as CTO at Skymall, Oxygen Media, The Princeton Review, CTB/McGraw-Hill and Kaplan Test Prep.

Executive & Board Restructuring Continues at Yahoo!

Yahoo! has appointed John Hayes, 56, as a Director. Currently, Hayes serves as EVP & Chief Marketing Officer at American Express. Previously, he was the EVP of Global Advertising & Brand Management at American Express and the President of Lowe & Partners. Earlier in his career, Hayes was a director of the Association of National Advertisers and Wyndham Vacation Resorts.

Google VP Resigns to Form Startup

Google announced the departure of VP of Apps Dave Girouard. He is leaving to start his own venture which Google Ventures plans on investing in. Before being named VP of Apps, Girouard served as VP & GM of Google’s Worldwide Enterprise business. Before joining Google, he served at Virage as SVP of Marketing & Corporate Strategy, VP & GM of Virage Interactive, and Director of Product Marketing. Prior to Virage, Girouard was a Product Manager at Apple in the Worldwide Product Marketing Group and an Associate in Booz Allen & Hamilton’s IT practice.

SVP Promoted to CIO at Starbucks

Starbucks has promoted Curt Garner from SVP of Business Technology to CIO. While at Starbucks, he also served as the VP of Global Retail Technology, VP of International IT, and Director of International IT & Global Business Systems. Earlier in his career, he served as the Manager of International IT at Wendy’s International.

New Head of Sales & CPO at AOL

AOL has promoted Jim Norton to Head of Sales. He joined AOL in 2009 as the SVP of AOL Advertising’s Advance Sales team. Prior to AOL, he was the National Sales Manager for Google’s Agency Activation team. Norton has also served as a Sales Manager at Tribune Broadcasting's WLVI-TV (Boston's WB) and has held a series of marketing positions at the Miller Brewing Company.

Yahoo Head Joins Apple

Scott Noteboom, the former VP of Data Center Engineering & Operations at Yahoo, has joined Apple. While his title at the company is unannounced, he will likely focus on helping expand Apple’s cloud computing efforts. During his time at Yahoo, Noteboom also served as the Chief Design Architect. Earlier in his career, he was the Senior Director of Operations at Abovenet, a provider of high bandwidth connectivity solutions. He has also served as the VP of Engineering at INVODA, an internet and voice provider which he founded.

Former CEO of Thomson Reuters Markets Joins eBay

eBay announced that Devin Wenig, 44, has joined the company as President of its Global eBay Marketplaces Business Unit. In this position, his responsibilities will include overseeing eBay, eBay classifieds, and StubHub. Wenig was most recently the CEO of Thomson Reuters Markets, where he led the company's global financial services and media businesses. Wenig also led the integration of Reuters and Thomson following the merger of the two companies. In the past, he has held other executive positions with Reuters and practiced law at the New York firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore.

HP Recruits New General Counsel

HP announced that it has appointed Gregg Melinson as Deputy General Counsel and VP of Global Government Affairs. Most recently, he was the Chief Marketing Partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath. Gregg has also served as Deputy General Counsel to Governor Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania.

Major Executive Shuffle at AOL

Jeff Levick, 40, has announced his retirement from AOL after a two year stint as the company’s President of Global Advertising & Strategy. Prior to AOL, Levick spent six years at Google where he last served as VP of Industry Development and Marketing for the Americas.

AOL Names New Ad Practice Head & Huffington Post Editor

AOL Advertising announced that Scott Kelliher was named Industry Practice Head for the Technology category. Kelliher joined AOL in 2008 and will continue as Telecom and Technology Sales Director. Prior to AOL, Kelliher was Director, Mobile Media Services for Virgin Mobile.
