Microsoft Greater China Region CEO Simon Leung has left the company for personal reasons. Before joining Microsoft, he was the President of the Asia Pacific region at Motorola. While at Motorola, Leung also served as SVP & Corporate VP. Prior to Motorola, he was President of the Asia Pacific region at Brightpoint and Managing Director at Tandem Computers.

Apple Appoints SVP, Retail
Apple has named John Browett as the company’s new SVP of Retail. Before this appointment, he served as the CEO of Dixons Retail. Prior to joining Dixons, he held several executive positions at Tesco, including CEO of Tesco.com. Earlier in his career, he advised retail and consumer goods clients at the Boston Consulting Group.

Former Symantec CEO Joins Microsoft Board
Microsoft announced that John Thompson, 62, has joined the company’s Board. Currently, Thompson serves as the CEO of Virtual Instruments, a provider of virtual infrastructure and SAN optimization. Before joining Virtual Instruments, he was the Chairman & CEO of Symantec. Earlier in his career, Thompson held senior leadership positions at IBM, including GM of IBM Americas. He currently serves on the board of directors at UPS, Seagate Technology, and Teach for America.

Intel Appoints Executive Chairman
Andy Bryant, 61, Intel’s Vice Chairman and Chairman-in-waiting, has assumed the Executive Chairman role. Most recently, Bryant served as the CAO & EVP of Technology, Manufacturing, and Enterprise Services. During his tenure at Intel, he has also served as the Systems Group Controller, VP & Director of Finance for the Intel Products Group, and SVP & CFO of Enterprise Services. Prior to Intel, he held senior roles with Ford and Chrysler.

Apple announced that Steve Jobs, 56, has resigned as CEO of the company. He will continue to serve the company in his new role as Chairman of the Board. Former Apple COO Tim Cook, 50, has assumed the role of CEO. Prior to joining Apple, Cook was the VP of Corporate Materials for Compaq. He came to Compaq from Intelligent Electronics, where he served as COO of the computer reseller division. Cook has also worked at IBM, most recently as the Director of North American Fulfillment.

Microsoft Loses Veteran
Charlie Kindel, a Microsoft employee of 21 years, announced that he is leaving to begin his own startup company. As General Manager of the Windows Phone developer experience, Kindel was tasked with leading the team that built the Windows Phone application platform. He was also responsible for contracting third party developers to create applications for the system. Prior to his work with the Windows Phone division, Kindel held a variety of senior roles within the company, including GM of Windows Home Server, Executive Technical Assistant, Senior Program Manager, and Chief of Staff.

Chief Architect Selected at Salesforce.com Subsidiary
Heroku, a cloud PaaS provider, has announced that Yukihiro Matsumoto, 46, will join the company as Chief Architect of Ruby, an open source programming language which Matsumoto created. He will also continue to work as a research fellow at the Network Applied Communication Laboratory and the Rakuten Institute of Technology.

SAP AG announced the appointment of Christoph Kollatz to EVP, SAP of HANA. Prior to joining SAP, Kollatz was CEO of Siemens IT Solutions and Services, leading a EUR 5 billion organization with approximately 38,000 people. He began his professional career at Siemens in 1989 in internal management consulting. During his tenure with the company, he led a variety of businesses in different areas, including the Siemens Power Generation Group, Siemens Business Services, and the Siemens I&S Group.
