Former Microsoft & HP Execs Join Saba’s Board; CFO Leaves Company

Saba, an HR software firm, announced the addition of Michael Abbott, 39, to its Board of Directors. Abbott is currently the VP of Engineering at Twitter. Previously, he led Palm's webOS application platform and services development team and was the GM for .NET Online Services at Microsoft.

The company also announced that Mike Fawkes has been selected to join its Board. Currently, Fawkes is an Operating Partner at VantagePoint Capital Partners. He has previously served as SVP of Operations for HP's Imaging and Printing Group (IPG). He was also responsible for leading HP's worldwide consumer support, environmental responsibility, strategic supply chain, and global logistics initiatives.

CFO William Slater, 59, is retiring from the company. Before joining Saba in 2008, Slater served as EVP & CFO at Symmetricom. Saba has initiated an external search for a new CFO and plans to complete this process in advance of Slater's retirement date.

Head of HR Leaves VeriSign

VeriSign announced that Christine Brennan, 57, SVP of HR, is leaving the company. Prior to VeriSign, Brennan served as the Head of Group HR for Bank of Ireland, Director of HR for Barclays, and VP of HR for AT&T.

String of Hires and COO Departure at Allscripts

Allscripts, a healthcare software solutions company, has appointed John Guevara as CIO. Prior to Allscripts, Guevara served as a GM at Microsoft. Before Microsoft, he was Global CIO at Intermec, CIO at Delphi, and VP and Group Director of Siemens’ Business Services (SBS).

Cliff Meltzer, a veteran development leader for Apple, Cisco, IBM, and CA Technologies, joined the company as EVP of Solutions Development. Most recently, he was Chief Development Officer at CA Technologies, where he led a 1,400 member development team.

Steve Shute, a veteran sales leader, will be joining the company as EVP of Sales. Shute has held numerous executive leadership positions at IBM, most recently as VP of Worldwide Sales for the Enterprise Content Management division.

Jackie Studer joined Allscripts as SVP and General Counsel. Prior to Allscripts, Studer served as General Counsel of Healthcare IT for GE Healthcare and held various management roles at The Dow Chemical Company.

Allscripts also announced that COO Eileen McPartland, 56, is leaving the company to pursue opportunities outside the healthcare industry. McPartland has previously held the titles of EVP at Misys and SVP of Consulting for North America at Oracle.

New Board Member at CAD/CAM Software Company

Synopsys announced the appointment of Chrysostomos Nikias, 58, to its Board of Directors. Currently, Dr. Nikias is the President of the University of Southern California, a position he has held since 2010. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Prior to his appointment as President of USC, Nikias served as USC's Provost and Chief Academic Officer. Nikias has also worked as a consultant for the U.S. Department of Defense.

McAfee Selects Two Execs as Co-Presidents

McAfee announced that Michael DeCesare and Todd Gebhart will jointly assume presidential responsibilities at the company. This move comes in the wake of the resignation of President David DeWalt, 45, who will continue as a member of the McAfee Board of Directors. DeCesare joined the company in 2007 and is currently EVP of Global Operations. Gebhart joined the company in 1999 and currently serves as the EVP and GM of the Consumer, Mobile and Small Business divisions at McAfee.

ERP Firm Fills New Role

RealPage announced the appointment of Kurt Twining to the newly created role of SVP & CPO of the company. Before joining RealPage, he was a Partner and GM at Buck Consultants. Prior to that, he served as SVP of HR and Security for Freescale Semiconductor, a global leader in embedded processing solutions. Twining has also worked as Principal and GM of the Hay Group and as SVP of HR for AmeriServ. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity and Dallas HR.

Allscripts Chairman on Progress Board

Progress Software, an infrastructure software company, has appointed Philip Pead, 58, to its Board. Pead is currently the Chairman of the Board at Allscripts and a member of the Board at Emdeon. Previously, Pead has served as the President and CEO of Eclipsys, a leading provider of enterprise clinical and financial software for hospitals. Earlier in his career, Pead worked for Per-Se Technologies, Dun & Bradstreet, and Attachmate.

JDA Software Recruits Former EMC & HP Services Exec

JDA Software Group announced that David Gai, 49, has been named EVP of Services. Gai joins JDA from EMC where he was VP of Worldwide Services for the company's Content Management and Archival division. Prior to EMC, he worked at BEA Systems as EVP of Worldwide Services and SVP of Worldwide Customer Support. Before BEA, Gai was CEO and President of Equitant, an order-to-cash outsourcing business based in Ireland, and held senior management positions at HP Services and Myers-Holum.

CRM Company Gets New Board Member

Verint Systems announced that Richard Nottenburg, 57, has been elected to its Board of Directors. Nottenburg is currently a director of Comverse Technology. He has previously served as the President & CEO of Sonus Networks and in various executive functions at Motorola. He also serves as a director of Aeroflex Holding.

Board Member Leaves Gaming Software Company

THQ announced that Gary Rieschel, 55, is giving up his position as a Director on the company’s Board. Rieschel is the founder of Qiming Venture Partners, a $500 million fund that invests in early stage Chinese companies, and SoftBank Venture Capital, a $2 billion fund based in the US which invested in more than 50 technology companies during Rieschel's tenure. Prior to his years as a venture capitalist, he held senior executive positions at Cisco Systems, Intel, Sequent Computer Systems, and nCUBE.

Publishing Software Company Recruits Division Sales Head

Pageflex, a division of Bitstream, announced the appointment of Elly Perets as VP of Sales and Marketing. Prior to joining Pageflex, he was Projects Director at the Goldratt Group and VP of Sales and Marketing at Press-sense.
