Intel announced the appointment of Andy Bryant, 61, as Vice Chairman, a newly created position on its Board. This move is designed to help facilitate Bryant’s eventual transition to the role of Chairman when Jane Shaw, the current Chairman, retires in 2012. Bryant joined Intel in 1981 and has since served as CFO, Chief Administrative Officer, and EVP. Also, he currently serves on the boards of McKesson, Columbia Sportswear, and Kryptiq.
Symantec Names New Chairman
Symantec's Board of Directors has appointed Stephen Bennett, 56, as Chairman of the Board. Bennett has been a Director at Symantec since early last year. Before Symantec, Bennett served as President & CEO of Intuit. He joined Intuit from GE, where he held senior management roles in divisions such as the GE Capital e-Business, GE Capital Vendor Financial Services, GE Appliances, and GE Medical Systems. Prior to GE, Bennett served as the CEO of Orbitz, SwissAir, and of Alta Vista. He currently serves on the boards of American Airlines, AMR, Qualcomm, and Vertafore.
Skype CFO on F5 Networks Board
F5 Networks, a leader in application delivery networking, has appointed Jonathan Chadwick, the CFO & SVP of Skype, to its Board of Directors. Prior to Skype, he was the EVP and CFO at McAfee. Chadwick joined McAfee from Cisco Systems, where he served as CFO & SVP of Global Customer Markets. He is also on Rocketship Education’s Board of Directors.
Rackspace Adds Sabre CEO and One Insider to Board
Rackspace Hosting, a leading web hosting and cloud computing company, announced that Sam Gilliland, 48, has joined as a Director on its Board. Currently, Gilliland is Chairman and CEO of Sabre Holdings, a global technology company serving the travel and tourism industries. During his time at Sabre, he has held titles such as President and CEO of Travelocity, EVP & CMO of Sabre Holdings, Group President of the company's Airline Solutions business, and SVP & GM of Sabre Business Travel Solutions. Before joining Sabre in 1988, Gilliland worked as an electrical engineer at the Lockheed Missiles and Space Company. In 2011, Gilliland was appointed to the President's Management Advisory Board by Barack Obama. He also serves on the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Committee.
The company has also approved the selection of Lew Moorman, 40, to its Board. Moorman serves as the company’s Chief Strategy Officer and President of the Cloud business. Before joining Rackspace, Moorman worked for McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm which advises high technology clients on critical strategic issues. Currently, he serves as a commissioner on Tech America's Cloud2 Commission, an organization which promotes the federal government's exploration and adoption of cloud services. Additionally, Moorman is a member of the board at The Texas Biomedical Research Institute and Kinetic Kids.
New CEO & Director at AMD
Advanced Micro Devices, a semiconductor manufacturer, has appointed Rory Read, 49, as President and CEO. Read has also been appointed to the company's Board of Directors. Before joining AMD, Read served as President and COO of the Lenovo Group. Prior to Lenovo, he spent 23 years at IBM, most recently as a Managing Partner of the Business Consulting Services division.
Board Member Leaves Headset Manufacturer
Roger Wery, 50, has resigned from the Board of Directors at Plantronics. Wery currently serves a Director and Head of Strategy Practice at PRTM, a management consulting firm. He is also the Chairman of the company’s Governance Committee. Prior to PRTM, he was EVP at Renaissance Worldwide, an international consulting firm.

PTC, a provider of product lifecycle management tools, announced the appointment of Thomas Bogan, 59, to its Board of Directors. Bogan currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Citrix Systems, a leading enterprise software infrastructure company, and as a Venture Partner with Greylock Partners. At Greylock, Bogan focuses on enterprise software startup companies such as Apptio, iConclude, Mazu, and Rally Software. Before Greylock, Bogan was President of Rational Software, an enterprise software company which was sold to IBM in 2003.
NetGear Selects Plantronics CFO for Board
NetGear, a networking equipment manufacturer, announced the appointment of Barbara Scherer, 55, to the company’s Board of Directors and Audit Committee. Currently, Scherer is the CFO and SVP of Finance & Administration of Plantronics, a mobile headsets manufacturer. Prior to joining Plantronics in 1997, she was an Associate at The Boston Consulting Group, a member of the corporate finance team at ARCO, and a Director of Keithley Instruments.
Tessera Expands Board
Tessera, an expert in miniaturization technology, announced that Anthony Tether, 69, was appointed to the company's Board of Directors. Tether is currently CEO of The Sequoia Group, a consulting firm that provides program management and strategy development services. Tether is the former Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), a principal agency within the US Department of Defense. Prior to joining DARPA, Tether was CEO of Dynamics Technology. Before Dynamics, he was the VP of Technology & Advanced Development at Ford Aerospace. He has also served on the US Army, Navy, and Defense Science boards and on the Office of National Drug Control Policy Research and Development Committee.

Clearwire announced the appointment of Erik Prusch, 44, as the new President and CEO of the company. Most recently, Prusch served as Clearwire’s COO & CFO. Prior to Clearwire, he was CFO at Borland Software and VP of Finance at Intuit. Prusch joined Intuit from Gateway Computers, where he was VP of Finance & Operations. He began his career at PepsiCo.
Executive Chairman at Emulex Transitions to the Role of Chairman
Emulex, a leader in storage networking infrastructure solutions, announced that Paul Folino, 65, will step down as Executive Chairman in November. Folino plans to serve as Chairman of the Emulex Board when he finishes his duties as Executive Chairman. He joined Emulex in 1993 as President, CEO, and a Director on the Board. Folino also serves as a board member of Microsemi and CoreLogic.
Progress Director on Quantum Board
Quantum, a data deduplication expert, announced that David Krall, 50, has been appointed to its Board of Directors. He currently serves as Executive Chairman of QSecure, a secure credit card developer. Krall is also a strategic advisor to Roku, a leading manufacturer of media players for streaming entertainment, and Universal Audio, a manufacturer of audio hardware and software plugins. In the past, he served as CEO of QSecure and COO of Roku. Prior to joining QSecure, Krall was the CEO of Avid Technology. He is also a member of the boards of Progress Software and Audinate Pty.
