SAP announced the appointment of Michael Naimoli as VP & Head of the Life Sciences Industry Business Unit. Naimoli joins SAP from Microsoft, where he served as the Worldwide Managing Director of the Life Sciences division. Prior to Microsoft, he worked as a Senior Biochemistry Specialist at GlaxoSmithKline and as a Senior Scientist at Merck.
IBM Promotes Female Insider to CEO and Board Positions
IBM announced that Virginia Rometty, 53, has been named as the company’s new President, CEO & Director, effective January 1, 2012. She is currently IBM’s SVP and Group Executive for Sales, Marketing & Strategy. Rometty will replace Samuel Palmisano, who will remain as Chairman of the IBM Board. Previously, Rometty served as SVP of IBM Global Business Services. She has also served as GM of IBM Global Services Americas and GM of IBM Global Insurance & Financial Services Sector. Rometty joined IBM in 1981 as a Systems Engineer.
Chairman of Emerson Electric on IBM Board
IBM announced that it has elected David Farr, 56, to the company’s Board of Directors. Currently, Farr is the Chairman and CEO of Emerson Electric. He also sits on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America and the Municipal Theater Association of St. Louis. He has been with Emerson for more than 25 years and has held a variety of roles at the company, including SVP, COO, Manager of Investor Relations, VP of Corporate Planning and Development, President of the Ridge Tool Division, and Group VP for the Industrial Components and Equipment Business. Earlier in his career, Farr served as a director for the United Way of Greater St. Louis and DPH Holdings Corporation.
Intel CFO on Autodesk Board
Autodesk announced that Stacy Smith, 48, has been appointed to its Board. Currently, he serves as Intel’s CFO & SVP of Finance. Smith joined Intel in 1988 and has held a variety of titles at the company, including GM & VP of Sales for EMEA, CIO, VP of Finance & Enterprise Services, and Assistant CFO. He also serves on the Board of Gevo, a developer of bio-based alternatives to petroleum products.
Allscripts Recruits Former Kodak Exec to its Board
Allscripts, a healthcare management software provider, announced that Catherine Burzik, 59, has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Currently, she is the President & CEO of Kinetic Concepts, a leading medical technology company. Before joining Kinetic Concepts, she served as President of Applied Biosystems Group and as SVP of Applera. Burzik has also served at Eastman Kodak Company, where she held various operations and marketing positions during her 20 year tenure. She currently serves as a board member at KCI, the San Antonio branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and AdvaMed.
CRM Software Company Hires Former Nuance & Avaya Exec
RightNow Technologies has appointed Tom Shepherd as the new VP of Global Indirect Sales. Prior to this appointment, he was GM of Global Technology Sales & Solutions at Convergys, a global leader outsourced customer care and billing services. Before joining Convergys, Shepherd was VP of Global Partners and Channels for Nuance Communications. Earlier in his career, he was the VP of Strategic Accounts for the EMEA region at Avaya.
Ex-Microsoft & HP Exec Named as CEO of Chinese Software Company
Kingsoft has recruited Zhang Hong Jiang, 50, to be the company’s CEO. Most recently, Jiang was the CTO for the Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group and the MD of the Microsoft Advanced Technology Center. Prior to joining Microsoft, Zhang was a Research Manager at HP Labs. He also worked at the Institute of Systems Science at the National University of Singapore. Zhang also works as a professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the University of Science and Technology of China and as a guest professor at Tsinghua University.
