Yahoo! Names New CEO
Yahoo! has selected PayPal President Scott Thompson, 54, to serve as its new CEO. He replaces Carol Bartz, 52, who left in September. Interim CEO Timothy Morse, 42, has resumed his former responsibilities as CFO. Before being named President at PayPal, Thompson served as the company’s SVP & CTO. Prior to joining PayPal, he was EVP of Technology at Inovant and CIO at Barclays Global Investors.
The company also announced that Jerry Yang, one of the company’s Co-founders, has resigned as a Director. Yang co-founded Yahoo! in 1995 with David Filo and served as CEO from 2007 to 2009. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Asian Pacific Fund and Cisco.
Interim President at PayPal
eBay announced that John Donahoe, the company’s current President & CEO, will serve as Interim President of PayPal until a successor is named. This move comes in response to the departure of former President Scott Thomson, who has been selected to serve as the new CEO of Yahoo. Donahoe joined eBay in 2005 as President of eBay Marketplaces. Earlier in his career, he spent more than twenty years at Bain & Company, most recently as the firm’s Worldwide Managing Director.
Local.com Terminates CTO; Appoints SVP of Tech
Local.com terminated the employment of Michael Plonski as CTO. Before joining Local.com, he served as SVP, CIO, and COO of the Digital division at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Prior to Martha Stewart, Plonski was the VP & CTO of Tribune Interactive. Before Tribune, he was Director of Technical Operations at Classified Ventures.
Also, the company appointed Erick Herring as the SVP of Technology. Most recently, Herring founded Townloop, a website which provides daily deals and discounts. Prior to Townloop, he served as the CTO of Adapt Technologies, a provider of patient transfer equipment and ease of care systems. In the past, Herring also held management positions at Zenith Insurance and Digital Evolution.
