DIRECTV Appoints Head of Digital Entertainment Products

Tony Goncalves is now SVP, Digital Entertainment Products at DIRECTV. Most recently, he served as the SVP, Product Management. Goncalves joined DIRECTV in 2007 and has held various positions in sales and product management. Goncalves was a key player in securing DIRECTV's partnership with AT&T and led the team that closed the CenturyLink partnership.

American Express Appoints SVP of Technology

American Express announced that Neal Sample has joined the company as SVP of Technology. In this position, he will be responsible for Serve, the company’s digital commerce platform. Most recently, Sample served as the CTO of X.commerce, eBay's open development and commerce platform. Before joining X.commerce, he was the VP of Architecture & Platform Products at eBay. Prior to eBay, Sample served as the VP of Social, Open & Participation Platforms at Yahoo! While at Yahoo!, he also held the title of Chief Architect. Earlier in his career, he was the Chief Scientist at RightOrder and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship with the CIA’s Office of R&D. 

SVP Promoted to CIO at Starbucks

Starbucks has promoted Curt Garner from SVP of Business Technology to CIO. While at Starbucks, he also served as the VP of Global Retail Technology, VP of International IT, and Director of International IT & Global Business Systems. Earlier in his career, he served as the Manager of International IT at Wendy’s International.

CIO Appointed at Intel

Kim Stevenson, the GM & VP of IT Operations and Services, has been named as the company’s new CIO. Prior to joining Intel, Stevenson served at EDS as the VP of the Worldwide Communications, Media, and Entertainment Industry Practice. While at EDS, she also served as the VP of Enterprise Service Management and as the VP of the Infrastructure Portfolio. Earlier in her career, Stevenson was a VP at IBM.

GM & Ford Veteran Named CIO at Dell

Dell has appointed Adriana Karaboutis as VP & Global CIO. Most recently, Karaboutis was VP of IT at Dell. In this position, she supported product groups, manufacturing, procurement, and supply chain operations. Before joining Dell in 2010, Karaboutis served at the Global Manufacturing & Labor Relations Information Officer at General Motors and held executive positions at Ford. She is a member of the Manufacturing Executive Leadership Board and a past President of the Michigan Council of Women in Technology.

Cisco Hires SVP for New Division

Cisco announced that it has hired Chris Young to serve as SVP of the newly formed Cisco Security Group. Young comes to Cisco from VMware, where he was the SVP & GM of End User Computing. At VMware, he was responsible for strategy, products, engineering, and delivery for all end user computing solutions. Prior to joining VMware, Young was SVP at RSA, the security division of EMC. He also sits on the Board of Directors for Rapid 7, a provider of security risk intelligence solutions.

Big Tech Changes at HP

HP announced that Shane Robison, 56, is retiring as EVP and Chief Strategy & Technology Officer. Robison was also responsible for the company’s strategy and corporate development efforts, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, intellectual property licensing, and partnerships. Robison came to HP from Compaq, where he served as the SVP of Technology and CTO. Prior to joining Compaq, he served as the President of Internet Technology and Development at AT&T Labs. He has also held senior positions at Cadence Design Systems and Apple Computer.

CIO Departure at Caterpillar

Caterpillar announced that John Heller, 57, has retired from his role as CIO. Heller held various roles during his 35 year career at Caterpillar, including VP of the Global Information Services Division, Systems Manager for Corporate Information Services, Information Systems Manager for Switzerland, and Director of the Systems & Processes Division.

MetLife Recruits New Head of Global Technology

MetLife announced that Martin Lippert has been appointed as EVP and Head of Global Technology. Most recently, Lippert served as Chief Operations and Technology Officer for Citigroup. Prior to joining Citigroup, he spent more than 10 years as Vice Chairman and Group Head of Global Technology and Operations for the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). Lippert began his career in the IT department of Mellon Bank, where he most recently served as EVP of Information Management & Research.

EVP Promoted to CIO at Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo announced that Kevin Rhein, 57, has been promoted to CIO & Senior EVP of the Technology and Operations Group. In addition to his new responsibilities, Rhein will continue to serve as a member of the Wells Fargo Operating Committee and Fair Lending Committee. Prior to being promoted, he was the EVP of Wells Fargo's Card Services and Consumer Lending group.
