Wal-Mart Names New Board Member – Google VP Marissa Mayer

Retail giant Wal-Mart nominated Marissa Mayer, 36, a VP at Google, to its board of directors. Mayer has been VP of Local and Maps for Google since 2010. She oversees product management and engineering work for Google Maps, Street View, Google Earth and local search products. Mayer was also VP, Search Products and User Experience at Google. Mayer joined Google in 1999 and was the company’s first female engineer.

Canadian Telecom Company Appoints Community Board Chairman

TELUS has appointed Claude Benoit as Chairman of the TELUS Montreal Community Board. Currently, she serves as the CEO of the Old Port of Montreal Corporation. Before being named CEO, she served as the company’s VP and oversaw the development of the Montreal Science Centre. Benoit is a member of the Order of Canada and has been awarded the McNeil Medal from the Royal Society of Canada.

ConocoPhilips Loses Pair of Directors

ConocoPhilips announced the resignation of Ruth Harkin, 66, as a member of the Board of Directors. Most recently, she served as the SVP of International Affairs & Government Relations at United Technologies and as the Chair of United Technologies International. Before joining United Technologies, Harkin was the Chair & CEO of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. Currently, she serves on the Board of AbitibiBowater, a pulp and paper company.

ON Semiconductor Appoints Former UBS Exec to its Board

ON Semiconductor announced that Teresa Ressel has joined its Board of Directors. Ressel is the former COO of UBS Americas group and CEO of UBS Securities. From 2001 to 2004, Ressel served at the U.S. Department of the Treasury as the Ninth Assistant Secretary and was designated by Presidential directive as CFO of the department. Before joining UBS, Ressel held a variety of roles at Kaiser Permanente, including VP of Corporate Audit and Corporate Environmental Health & Safety Programs, Chief Compliance Officer, and SVP & COO of e-Commerce. Earlier in her career, she also served at HP as a Corporate Program Manager.

Tobacco Board Elects Canadian Pacific Railway CFO

Altria Group has appointed Kathryn McQuade, 54, as the company’s newest Board Member. Currently, she serves as EVP & CFO of Canadian Pacific Railway Limited, a transcontinental railway in Canada and the United States. Prior to being named EVP & CFO, she was the company’s COO. Before joining Canadian Pacific, McQuade was the EVP of Planning & CIO at Norfolk Southern, a shipping and transportation company. Earlier in her career, she held a number of other positions at Norfolk Southern, including SVP of Finance, SVP of Financial Planning, and VP of Internal Audit.

Academic Joins the Board at Pfizer

Pfizer has elected Dr. Helen Hobbs, 59, to its Board. She is an Investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She also serves on the Board of the McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development. Hobbs is the recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Heart Association.

Verizon named Melanie Healey, 50, to its Board. Currently, Healey serves at Procter & Gamble as Group President of North America and Global Hyper, Super, Mass Channel. She also serves on the boards of P&G, Verizon, and Bacardi. Since joining P&G in 1990, she has held senior roles in the Feminine, Healthcare, and Adult Care divisions. Healey was named one of Forbes’ Top 50 Most Powerful Women Leaders and one of Wall Street Journal’s Top 50 Women to Watch.

JP Morgan Exec on Philip Morris Board

Philip Morris International named Kalpana Morparia, 58, to its Board of Directors. Currently, Morparia serves as JP Morgan’s India CEO. She also sits on the board of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, an integrated global pharma company, and CMC, a leading Indian systems engineering and integration company. Before joining JP Morgan, Morparia was MD of ICICI Bank, India’s second largest bank. She also served as Vice Chair of ICICI’s Insurance and Asset Management Business. She was named one of "The 50 Most Powerful Women in International Business" by Fortune Magazine in 2008.
