Marvell Technology Director Resigns
Semiconductor maker Marvell Technology Group’s Director Dr. Ta-lin Hsu resigned from the board. Dr. Hsu is the founder and chairman of H&Q Asia Pacific which he founded in 1986. Before that, he was a general partner at Hambrecht & Quist. Earlier in his career, he worked at IBM for 12 years and was most recently responsible for IBM’s advanced research in mass storage systems and technology.

Ubiquiti Networks Selects New Board Member and General Counsel
Ubiquiti Networks, a multinational technology company, announced that Bill Gurley, 45, has joined the company's Board of Directors. Currently, Gurley serves as a General Partner at Benchmark Capital and sits on the board of directors of Demandforce, Opentable, Uber, and Zillow. Prior to working in venture capital, he was a Research Analyst on Wall Street and covered companies such as Dell, Compaq, Microsoft, and Amazon. Earlier in his career, Gurley was a Design Engineer at Compaq Computer.

Cisco SVP Departs for Microsoft
Cisco Systems announced that Laura Ipsen, 47, has resigned as the company’s SVP of the Connected Energy division. Ipsen left to join Microsoft as the new Corporate VP of its Worldwide Public Sector division. While at Cisco, Ipsen also served as the SVP & GM of the Smart Grid Business unit. She currently serves on Monsanto’s Board of Directors.

Google Elects Former VMware Exec to Board; Division Head Promoted
Google has elected Diane Greene, 55, to its Board. Greene is the Co-founder and former CEO of VMware. Earlier in her career, she served as an EVP at EMC and held technical leadership positions at Silicon Graphics, Tandem, and Sybase. Currently, Greene serves on the Board of Directors at Intuit.

Microsoft Adds to Windows Phone Team
Microsoft has promoted Andrew Lees to President of Windows Phone and Windows 8. In the past, he has served as Corporate VP of the Microsoft Server & Tools Marketing and Solutions Group. Prior to joining the Server & Tools Group, Lees held a variety of different roles within the Worldwide Sales, Marketing and Services Group. He joined Microsoft in 1990 and spent 10 years at Microsoft U.K.

Cisco announced that it has hired Chris Young to serve as SVP of the newly formed Cisco Security Group. Young comes to Cisco from VMware, where he was the SVP & GM of End User Computing. At VMware, he was responsible for strategy, products, engineering, and delivery for all end user computing solutions. Prior to joining VMware, Young was SVP at RSA, the security division of EMC. He also sits on the Board of Directors for Rapid 7, a provider of security risk intelligence solutions.

Big Tech Changes at HP
HP announced that Shane Robison, 56, is retiring as EVP and Chief Strategy & Technology Officer. Robison was also responsible for the company’s strategy and corporate development efforts, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, intellectual property licensing, and partnerships. Robison came to HP from Compaq, where he served as the SVP of Technology and CTO. Prior to joining Compaq, he served as the President of Internet Technology and Development at AT&T Labs. He has also held senior positions at Cadence Design Systems and Apple Computer.

Cisco SVP Joins Moody’s Board
Moody's, a leading credit rating company, announced that Kathy Hill, 55, has been elected to its Board of Directors. She will also serve as a member of the Governance & Compensation Committee and Audit Committee. Currently, Hill is the SVP of Development Strategy & Operations at Cisco Systems. Prior to joining Cisco, she served as VP of Ascend Communications and held senior engineering management positions at Newbridge Networks and Hughes Network Systems. Hill is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology.

IBM Promotes Female Insider to CEO and Board Positions
IBM announced that Virginia Rometty, 53, has been named as the company’s new President, CEO & Director, effective January 1, 2012. She is currently IBM’s SVP and Group Executive for Sales, Marketing & Strategy. Rometty will replace Samuel Palmisano, who will remain as Chairman of the IBM Board. Previously, Rometty served as SVP of IBM Global Business Services. She has also served as GM of IBM Global Services Americas and GM of IBM Global Insurance & Financial Services Sector. Rometty joined IBM in 1981 as a Systems Engineer.
