Google Elects Former VMware Exec to Board

Google has elected Diane Greene, 55, to its Board. Greene is the Co-founder and former CEO of VMware. Earlier in her career, she served as an EVP at EMC and held technical leadership positions at Silicon Graphics, Tandem, and Sybase. Currently, Greene serves on the Board of Directors at Intuit.

Microsoft Adds to Windows Phone Team

Microsoft has promoted Andrew Lees to President of Windows Phone and Windows 8. In the past, he has served as Corporate VP of the Microsoft Server & Tools Marketing and Solutions Group. Prior to joining the Server & Tools Group, Lees held a variety of different roles within the Worldwide Sales, Marketing and Services Group. He joined Microsoft in 1990 and spent 10 years at Microsoft U.K.

Former Governor Joins Oil & Gas Exploration Company

Continental Resources appointed former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer, 65, to its Board. Schafer was elected North Dakota's 30th governor in 1992 and served for two terms. In 2008, he was nominated and confirmed as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. During his term as governor, Schafer also served as Chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, which is comprised of all energy-producing states. Before his political service, he was the President of Gold Seal, a distributor of household products. Schafer was also the co-founder and CEO of Extend America, a telecommunications company focused on rural connectivity in the Midwest.

Cisco Hires SVP for New Division

Cisco announced that it has hired Chris Young to serve as SVP of the newly formed Cisco Security Group. Young comes to Cisco from VMware, where he was the SVP & GM of End User Computing. At VMware, he was responsible for strategy, products, engineering, and delivery for all end user computing solutions. Prior to joining VMware, Young was SVP at RSA, the security division of EMC. He also sits on the Board of Directors for Rapid 7, a provider of security risk intelligence solutions.

HP Fires CEO/Board Member

HP announced that Leo Apotheker, 58, has been relieved of his duties as President, CEO & Director. Before joining HP, he was the CEO of SAP AG. Meg Whitman, 55, has been named as Apotheker’s replacement. Prior to joining HP, Whitman served as President & CEO of eBay from 1998 to 2008. She has also held senior positions at Hasbro, Stride Rite, and FTD.

SAP announced the appointment of Jonathan Becher as the company’s new Chief Marketing Officer. Becher joined SAP through the acquisition of Pilot Software, where he served as President, CEO, & CMO. Since joining SAP four years ago, he has served as EVP of Marketing. Prior to Pilot, Becher was the President and CEO of Accrue Software.

Steve Jobs Relinquishes CEO Role at Apple

Apple announced that Steve Jobs, 56, has resigned as CEO of the company. He will continue to serve the company in his new role as Chairman of the Board. Former Apple COO Tim Cook, 50, has assumed the role of CEO. Prior to joining Apple, Cook was the VP of Corporate Materials for Compaq. He came to Compaq from Intelligent Electronics, where he served as COO of the computer reseller division. Cook has also worked at IBM, most recently as the Director of North American Fulfillment.
